The charges, as revealed by the Portuguese press, concern 2016-2020, and have included all members of the club board from that period and afterward.
Only a year and a half after Benfia's longtime president, Louis Philippe Vieira, was forced to resign after being arrested on charges of tax evasion, serious fraud, counterfeiting and money laundering.
Part of the charges brought against him saw him charged with embezzlement of funds, along with another defendant, totaling about 2 million pounds.
The investigation reportedly stems from access to email prosecutors, with the club reportedly being charged with benefiting from some fraudulent results in the period in question of the investigation.
