Average salary in region totals 800-900 Euro, Kosovo at the bottom of the well

The last three years of wages in the region have increased much faster than in Albania. This has deepened the gap between an employee's income in Serbia, northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, compared to an Albanian. The average gross salary for these countries fluctuates between 800-900 euros per month, up from about 520 euros average in Albania, or on average about 40% higher than in us.

The Monitor has processed the official data of the statistical institutes of Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for average gross monthly wages, which are available by September 2022. While Kosovo, the latest available data has the end of 2021.
This salary has been compared to nominal value (indecent to inflation) to the third quarter 2019, before the beginning of the pandemic.

Montenegro has the second highest average wage in the region, with 885 euros a month at the end of the third quarter of 2022, although the gap with other countries has narrowed, due to slower growth (with about 14% from September 2019), according to Montenegro's Statistics Office.

Serbia is the country that has increased wages in the region during this period. They have increased by 39%, bringing 880 euros to the end of September 2022, according to the Statistics Office of the Republic of Serbia.

In northern Macedonia, an average worker pays nearly 780 euros, or 29% more than in September 2019, reports the Northern Macedonia Statistics Office.

High wage growth has been marked and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reaching 893 euros, the highest in the region, with 24% expansion from the third quarter 2019, according to Bosnia and Herzegovina's Statistics Agency.

In Albania, an employee's average salary was 522 euros in September 2022, up from 440 three years ago, with an increase of about 19%, according to INSTAT. (See chart: The average gross monthly salary in the region ʹ euro).

Kosovo's Statistics Agency has reported the data by the end of 2021, with the average salary at 484 euros, making it together with Albania the two countries paying less their employees.

Few wages increased in Albania in three years
Albania is second with the lowest increase in salary rates, following Montenegro for September 2019-September 2022. But, because Montenegro has high salaries, the salaries of Albanian workers in nominal value have marked lower expansion.

After three years, an Albanian employee receives 83 euros more. Serbia's employees are the ones who have had the highest benefit, while receiving 248 euros more. In northern Macedonia, salaries have been raised by 178 euros, in Bosnia with 173 euros and in Montenegro with 100 euros. (See chart: Change of Salaries in region T III 2022/ T III 2019).

Although Albania is one of the countries that passed the pandemic more easily and has relatively high economic growth in relation to neighbours, it is not translated into the welfare of its citizens, pointing to a unstable and low-valued development. Other Eurostat data recently showed that Albanian families and individuals have the lowest available income in the region, including young people.

Even for consumption and per capita income, we're still the last in Europe.

This situation is promoting mass extinction, especially young people, creating numerous problems in the labour market while detecting and raising wages in the country. Monitor
