More than 2 million kilos of products have been eliminated last year by the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV). While the Kosovo Government's budget sharing of 7m euros is being welcomed by the institution.

AUV Executive Director Flamur Kadriu says that during 2021 they have received municipal inspectors for veterinarians, phytosanitars and Sunnitars from Kosovo municipalities to complete their need.

In a proposal for Online Economics, Kadriu said products coming from Serbia are tested in terms of the CEFTA agreement and that it is not known if 100 percent are safe.

The “Products coming from Serbia, the ones that are allowed, namely, what are under agreement under CEFTES we are talking about. We test them, we can never say any product from which the state wants to be sure, so there are also procedures that verify whether it's safe food. We have a lot of tests we do during the year, physical checks and documentation we do at the border points. So far, we don't have reports of unsafe foods, of what we detect that there are any obstacles, or they may cause any danger they are annihilated and they are not given access to the market”, he said.

As for the extermination of goods, Kadriu said that in the past year approximately 2 million per kilograms and litres, which may be long or inadequate for consumption, have been eliminated.

Kadriu also said the Food and Veterinary Agency conveyed challenges every time until the most difficult one was in the pandemic.

“We with the annihilation of goods have any kind. We have products that are running out of deadlines and operators call them that we are present during their annihilation. We have products that are found on the market that are out of date or are in various injuries. Recently, we are very often reporting on consumer complaints, which means consumer each time because of social media and various networks we have complaints every day, different complaints and we try to make it happen, to verify what's going on. These bring in a large number of annihilations, we have approximately 2 million pounds and litres d.m. that is, the extinction of various products that are either expired or are found not suitable for consumption”, he said.

The Agency's “addies last year have been huge considering that we entered 2022 still in the pandemic. The agency's Sanitary Inspectorate has been extremely committed to implementing the Government's measures to prevent disease, we haven't been to say 24 hours on the ground, thanks to what the Government actually enabled us to have the 115 additional inspectors only for the pandemic so that with a little larger number, we managed to cope with the challenges we had at the moment”, Kadri said, saying the challenge has been also facing bird flu.

After that, the flu of the birds that were hit with avian influence occurred, but we were able to locate it very quickly, even though we had a loss of birds because the birds that are affected by disease should be destroyed not to be allowed to spread any more and this challenge crossed well without any major damage, farmers destroyed the animals and compensated too, so because it is one of the diseases that must be compensated for then and compensated for <1x>

The other “Sphide we have the projects of the European Commission which are extremely intense so that a large number of staff are committed to the realisation of projects like the animal disease project that we have, we are doing the monitoring programs of a large number of animal diseases, the commitments on the ground to extract different notes, laboratory tests, all of these times and a large number of personnel who will be engaged”, Kadriu said.
