Attack on Makivka: Major number of Russian victims

The death of dozens of Russian soldiers in a New Year's missile attack in an occupied eastern Ukraine has prompted charges among Russian military critics.

The Russian Defence Ministry has acknowledged that 63 people were killed in the Ukrainian attack in Makivka around midnight on New Year's Eve.

A commander's wife accused the West of trying to destroy Russia.

However, military leaders were accused of inadequacy elsewhere, reports the BBC, Klankosova.tv.

Ukraine says that about 400 people were killed or injured in Makivka, and other figures were given by Russian nationalists in social media.

However, there is no way to verify how many soldiers were killed when US-made Himars missiles hit a professional college filled with recruits. In the vicinity of the area, ammunition was also being preserved, which was destroyed. 

Whatever the number, this is the highest number of victims of Russia since the beginning of its aggression in Ukraine.

Mitinge was held in several cities in the southwestern region of Russia, Samara, where Governor Dmitry Azarov said many of the recruits had survived.
