Even though they bear the name “-Albania 1” and “Albana 2”, they are not entirely ours, but the Albanian state will have priority in using them. By “Satellite”, the geospace company that manages the two satellites, this envisions a $6 million deal.

The company will enable Albania assistance in agricultural management, with illegal construction, traffic management, fire monitoring, border security and environmental monitoring.

For expert Azmer Dulevic, these technology applications, despite government statements, have their limitations.

“Takes photographs of occasional images of different surfaces, but when fire falls somewhere, no real-time alarm is given because the satellite does not stay 24 hours above our territory. It's also said to be used for the prevention of trauma, but it's a lie, because these are not satellites that provide real information, as is actually Google Maps. These satellites are used for images that can mainly serve agriculture”, he says.

The space community, Albania is already among the 80 countries that have satellites, the list that is led by the United States of America that has over half, or over 5,000 satellites, from about 8700 to orbit, according to the United Nations.

Much of the satellites are used for commercial purposes mainly for communication, as in the case of Elon Musk's SpaceX giant, while others for military purposes or land surveillance, as in the case of Albania.

However, if the price we paid for these two satellites is worth it, it will depend solely on institutions.

Small countries rarely drop satellites for the costs they have against the services they give. All depends on the capacity we have to manage”, follows Dulevic for A2 CNN. The Albanian state agreement with the satellite company has a three-year term.
