A statement by Montenegrin Prime Minister Abazovic in support of Kosovo government head Albin Kurti concerning the association of Serb municipalities has not gone unnoticed.
Invited earlier to show “The Top Story” of Grida Duma, Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, has offered his political views on the situation in the Balkans and Montenegro.
The surprise question that “Rama is being held for cosmpolite, however, accused of being corrupt, while Kurti is nationalist and has no such charges”, Abazovic replied: it is another reason when it comes to countries outside the former Yugoslavia. After a review of Rama in the international arena, he said: Nationalism has become a tool of control of corrupt politicians... and that “whenever corrupts need to push tensions, they exploit the latter.” According to him, nationalist rhetoric in the former Yugoslavia, especially in Montenegro, serves as a mask or cover of agendas and personal interests. It also reminded us that Montenegro is a multiethnic and multireligious state, without homogenic groups, and in such a society rights should be guaranteed equally. The more someone like him is a politician who ethnically belongs to the Albanian minority -- must work in favour of equality of rights.
Asked about his opinion on his Kosovo counterpart, Albin Kurti, stressed that he has a positive opinion, even adding that there is sympathy for his fight against corruption. He further singled out that he supports Kurt's civic approach to Kosovo, especially in terms of the current problems he is facing. Abazovic said he supports Kurti's idea on the issue of the association of Serbian municipalities, which, according to him, should not be defined on ethnic grounds, as this would increase divisions and deepen divisions. He concluded that Kosovo cannot have municipalities which are Serb or Albanian, since they are all equal as municipalities belonging to citizens indiscriminately. According to this reasoning, this approach of Kurt is positive for the region.
