Fighting the largest nuclear disaster in Europe. Russian state media, TASS, reported on September 5th that three explosions have been heard in Enerhodar, the town where the Zaporija plant is located.
The sixth reactor continues to be in operation, which is providing electricity to Ukraine's energy system and meets the demands of the Zaporoizhja plant itself”, Enerhoatom said through a statement on September 5th. This operator added that the plant is operating despite risks “from violations of the rules for radiation and security from fire”.
Russia has accused Ukraine of trying to forcibly take control of the plant, which has been rejected by Kiev.
Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of disposing heavy weapons at the plant, well aware that Ukraine would not carry out attacks. Moscow denies these accusations but has resisted efforts to disarm the area in order to avoid the danger of an environmental disaster.
Fighting around the plant has prompted the International Nuclear Energy Agency to send a mission to the plant last week.
Several mission members left on September 3rd, currently two inspectors are still in Zaporija to monitor the situation, T reported. The ASS quoting a Russian expert who was present inside the plant.
The unprohibited Russian invasion of Ukraine has entered in the seventh month. The war has prompted increased energy prices and increased concerns about supplies worldwide, while the West is accusing Moscow of using gas and oil as weapons. / REL/
