Five people have passed away and six others managed to escape after an unprecedented “crash” between a boat and a whale at sea.
The event took place on the coasts of Kaykoura south of New Zealand around 10am Saturday, September 10th.
The mayor of Kaykoura confirmed that the 8.5m ship was overthrown after a whale crash, although they are unable to confirm it.
Craig Mackle said: “We have a boat overturned by a whale from what we can understand, come out of the bottom.
“We have closed the port so they can continue to work. ”
A sea inspector from New Zealand is coming from the city of Christchurch to investigate what happened.
Five bodies were found from inside the hit boat. The moment the sea incident took place was calm and wireless, according to local media reports.
Police believe the boat has been overthrown in such a way that a whale may have been guilty. The authorities had ruled out the possibility of a trunk overturning the ship after likely digging a hole in the chaff instead of turning it upside down.
The whales are common in this area.
