September 26, 1998, was one of many incredible heroic events of that time. Signs of praise beyond the human imagination that marked a twist in Kosovo's glorious history.
What if it happened today in Ukraine? There would certainly have been international sensations.
It says: Camber Demak
It was 1998, without smart phones, without social networks, without our televisions to witness what was happening on the front lines of war. Moreover, a country nearly forgotten by the world, plagued by the darkness of the Milosevic regime. Yet, hope was still on the horizon.
The world had not yet heard well what is happening in Kosovo villages and mountains. But men and boys, women and girls, had already begun to appear throughout the mountains of Kosovo, telling us that the sun will rise again in Kosovo.
The teacher's story with his three former students is undoubtedly among many tragic but even heroic events at the same time.
Well-armed, just a few yards from school, the teacher with his three former students had decided to ambush the Serbian Army, which had led the civilian population into the village of Abri Epper.
The flame of resistance originated with the spark of the self - sacrificing act of these heroes who raised the hope of freedom and strengthened the conviction of the triumph for each one of us.
After the battle that the legendary commander, Adem Yasar, had experienced an extraordinary mobilization around Kosovo to capture weapons against this regime.
In Drenica, only masks had already been removed, because subx0liberal mobilization” had started long ago in many of its villages.
Valdet Xhemjalaj was part of these first groups that had started in <x0-legity” the body and the preparation of KLA shares against Serbian forces.
After emerging to the KLA, front and war battles had changed. Hole were taking shape throughout villages to resist frontal battles.
This was true of the September 26, 1998, Battle in the Upper Abria.
Serbian forces were headed towards the civilian population that were located in the middle of the village of Abri é Terdevc and the monk village.
Teacher Vesel Demak and his three former students, Valdet Xhemajlaj, with his brother Arben and Africa Hajdaraj, were located a few meters from primary school “Associated Galica” in Abry Epper.
The enemy had no idea that by a school they would encounter the powerful resistance of four brave men willing to face any threat to the civilian population.
They were determined to resist until self - sacrifice.
Since it was among the KLA's first frontal battles, Serbian forces still had no knowledge of what was awaiting them in Kosovo's mountains and villages.
The attack had begun so strongly and unexpectedly that it left little strategic recovery opportunity for Serbian forces.
Faced with difficulties and severe losses, Serbian forces also sought air support.
Imagine, against the resistance of a teacher with his three former students, the helicopter was also used.
After it had begun to run out of ammunition and in trouble, Professor Vesel Demaku, and his former students, Valdet Xhemajlaj and Africa Hajdaraj, were martyred while severely injured Arben Xhemajlaj.
Arben today is witnessing a battle that, in terms of her weight and symbol, was among the battles that left her strong traces of the morality of each KLA soldier in its course.
Today, 24 years later, Kosovo's freedom and citizenship stems mostly from the glorious battle of the Kosovo Liberation Army, such as this of September 26, 1998.
Imagine if war news in Ukraine reported an event like this today: “The teacher with his three former students is killed protecting the civilian population near his school”.
Of course it would be news all over the world.
The world is making progress, and with it, technology, which allows us to see war in various wars throughout the world.
But we all need to understand that the KLA war, and the battle like this September 26th, are the true incarnation of Kosovo's freedom and independence, which should make each of us proud.
