Police said Myles Sanderson, 32, was arrested on a highway in the province of Saskatchewan on Wednesday afternoon after a high-speed chase.
Image from the site showed a white SUV leaving the street and was surrounded by police crossmen near the town of Rosthern, reports the BBC, transmission Express.
Ten victims remain in hospital, three in critical condition.
This evening our province is breathing collective relief,”, Deputy Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said at a press conference Wednesday evening.
She said police had received a report earlier during the day when Sanderson had stolen a vehicle from outside a property.
Police were in pursuit as Sanderson left at speeds of 150 km/h (93 mph). They forced his vehicle into a ditch and the officers found a knife in the car while he was arrested, the police chief said. He was arrested about 15:30 local time (21:30 GMT).
Immediately after his arrest, Sanderson entered “medical concern” and was taken to a hospital in Saskatoon, where he was declared dead, she added. She gave no further details, saying that the cause of his death would be to determine an examination after death.
An unidentified official earlier told local media that Sanderson died of self-injury.
