Russia's “The European gas duties through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline will resume fully only when “The collective West” lifts sanctions against Moscow” President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, has said.
Gazprom, Russia's state-owned gas monopoly, said on Friday he would ban gas supply through Nord Stream 1 due to a technical malfunction, which he attributed to difficulties in repairing German production turbines in Canada.
The EU has already launched several sanctions against Russia to allow turbine repairs. European leaders have said there is nothing preventing Gazprom from supplying the gas continent and have accused Russia of arms of its energy exports.
Russia continues to supply gas to Europe through Soviet-era pipelines through Ukraine that have remained open despite invasion, and via the South Stream pipeline through Turkey. However, Peskov explained that Russia could not fully resume supplies through Nord Stream 1 until the West lifts sanctions.
