U.S. Military Intelligence Chief: Putin cannot reach target in Ukraine

The problems Russia is facing recently in Ukraine show that at this point that things have reached, its forces are unable to achieve President Vladimir Putin's initial goal of occupying the country, the Pentagon's intelligence chief said on Friday. We're getting to a point when Mr. Putin [...]
We are getting to a point when Mr. Putin will have to review his targets regarding the operation in (Ukraine)”, Lieutenant General Scott Barry, chief of American military intelligence, said during a conference on national security and intelligence issues very close to Washington. The “is currently quite clear that it (Putin) will not be able to realise what was intended at the beginning of the operation”, he added.
President Putin attacked Ukraine on February 24th, with the intention of American officials to overthrow the country's government. Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian forces have been able to stop an invasion of Kiev.
Russia suffered another major blow last week, thanks to a Ukrainian counteroffensive that forced its troops to withdraw from most of the country's northeast.
The “Russians planned an invasion, but were forced to resign”, Mr. Barry said, also mentioning Mr. Putin's reluctance to fully mobilise Russian forces in the war.
President Joe Biden and other administration officials have seen to it that they do not call Russia's recent withdrawal Ukraine's victory or turning point in war. Analysts warn it is impossible to predict what might happen in the future.
