The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and innovation (MASHTI) has appealed to teachers and education workers from tomorrow to return to the regular teaching process, commemorating that children's right to education is guaranteed with the international conventions and the Constitution of Kosovo.
In a Facebook post, the Ministry of Education says losing learning due to the teacher strike is a violation of children's basic right to education and as such is unacceptable.
Kosovo's “government, being aware of high inflation caused by factors that are out of our reach, has already allocated an additional 50 euros per month to all public officials and we believe this is on the borders of current opportunities in our Republic”, the AugustI points out.
Under such conditions, the further suspension of the learning process under AugustI presents serious concern and action with long-term consequences for students of all age groups.
Moreover, MASTI says there are indicators that individuals assigned by political hierarchys or local government are exercising strong pressure on teachers and school management not to start the job.
We're all asking not to interfere with the teacher's decision. The right to be on strike, or to work, should be guaranteed to everyone. Furthermore, this pressure is also punishable according to the legislation in force”, further said in the AugustI communiqué.
MA SHTI calls for the involvement of competent mechanisms, public authorities, judiciary, Ombudsman, OSHCs that, under the competencies that have to come up with clear attitudes, proposals and recommendations for fair balance between the rights of parties involved in the issue, always taking into account the importance of law in education involving about 320 thousand students.
“Taking seriously our commitment to full implementation of the right to education, but also improving the conditions and compensation of teachers, we ask all parties involved to review and balance interests, and return to tomorrow's” teaching process, the communique concludes.
