Government chief said the plates Serbia issues to Kosovo Serbs have expired in October last year, while reminding them they are from Milosevic's time.
The “Tarchs are the legacy of the Milosevic regime. This inheritance is a burden you should not bear. In addition, it is aiming to keep you past and isolated”, he said.
Kurti, through a video published on Facebook, told Serbs about vehicle registration centres where they can convert plates.
“From today until October 31st, for a total of 61 days in 34 automotive registration centres will develop the process of converting car plates issued by Serbia to those in the Republic of Kosovo... In Kosovo there are a total of 401,945 cars with RKS license plates. Tens of thousands of them are owned by minority communities. Those that need to be converted make up only about 2% of them”, Kurti said.
He reiterated that citizens who switch plates are free from taxes and other obligations, amounting to up to 5,000 euros.
“I invite citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, owners of cars with license plates “PR”, “KM”, “PZ”, “GL”, “UR”, “PE”, “DA” and “A” to convert them to RKS license plates in the next two months, during which they are free from taxes and obligations totalling up to 5,000 euros”, Kurti said.
