Hoti-Kurt: The deal with inflation is delayed, that's the solution.

MP from the ranks of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, has said the Kurti Government Pack to face inflation, which was introduced a week ago, is delayed and inadequate. The solution, according to Hoti, is to index salaries, pensions, social assistance and subsidies for the inflation rate. For the LDK deputy, a package [...]

For LDK deputy, such a package would make sense at the time of pandemic, but that now when prices are continuing to rise, Hoti has said the measures should be systematic and long-term.

Sustainable resolution, though not perfect, remains the index of salaries, pensions, social assistance and subsidies to the inflation rate. This alone would safeguard the purchasing power of income. This alone prevents the deepening of poverty and the decline of quality of life.

This solution would easily be feasible in the public sector. Moreover, this would not charge much for the state budget, as tax revenues have increased proportionally to the increase of inflation”, Hoti wrote.

For the private sector, Hoti has said that the government's decision to reflect on the rise in wages of the most sensitive categories of workers with low wages would have to increase.

Complete Hoti Post:

The package for confronting inflation is delayed and inadequate. The solution remains to index salaries, pensions, social assistance and subsidies for the inflation rate.

The package for confronting inflation proposed by the Government, which envisions simultaneous family support, would make sense at the time of pandemic, when families needed permanent support to cope with the decline in income during the months of total closure.

It is now clear that price hikes will continue for several months. Likely, after a while prices will stabilise at high levels. Hence, the decline in the purchasing power of household income is not temporary and, therefore, cannot be solved by permanent measures. Measures must be systematic and long-term.

Lasting, though not perfect, solutions remain to index salaries, pensions, social assistance and subsidies to the inflation rate. This alone would safeguard the purchasing power of income. This alone prevents the deepening of poverty and the decline of quality of life.

This solution would easily be feasible in the public sector. Moreover, this would not burden much the state budget, as tax revenues have increased proportionally with rising inflation.

Meanwhile, for the private sector, minimum wage would have to be increased with the Government's decision to reflect on rising wages of the highest-sensitive categories of workers with low wages.
