Government's deadlines by September 5th to pay, Ibrahim: We're being hurt by arrogance

The full lack of wages for pre-university education sector employees and municipal administration has been the main concern of the Kosovo Communist Association at the meeting held Thursday afternoon.

The head of the Kosovo Commission Association, Saban Ibrahimi, told Online Economy that preparations for the new school start are made by Kosovo municipalities, but that the cause of the strike has not happened. He has addressed criticism against the parties, who he said are not dialogueing in order to find a solution.

“After the Kosovo Finance Minister Iron Murati's statements concerning partial payment to civil servants at the local level, the Kosovo Commission Association Board invited the Council of Mayors for an emergency meeting. The meeting was held yesterday where representatives of Kosovo's 22 municipalities have attended, and at that meeting all the mayors have expressed genuine concern over the created situation. All the mayors have been declared a voice that preparations in terms of the new school start technicalally and under municipal competencies have been carried out and welcomed the start of the new school year, but because of the created situation of the strike, September 1st was not a holiday for students to sit in school banks”, Ibrahim said.

From this meeting, Ibrahim has said the central level has been given until September 5th for wages to be executed, on the contrary, will take other legal steps.

“The concern was also the monetary payment of wages to civil servants. It should be noted that at the local level, wages have not been accepted by the mayors, vice heads, municipal directors, or other municipal officials. The salary has not even accepted employees of the Social Work Centers and so forth. So this is a difference that is made from the central level and this difference in wages is taking place for the first time in post-war Kosovo. The mayors have called for until September 5th, salaries to come up, otherwise the mayors of the municipalities have pledged to hold another meeting and to see for possible legal actions”, he said.

“There is tremendous pressure from the central level to the local level regarding the strikers' lists. The municipalities are on strike, the pay lists for August 10th have been submitted until August 10th, the lists for September 10th will be handed over, if there are anyone to hand over because the administration is on strike, and for that reason the contracts are signed that the institution responsible for paying salaries is a municipality, and it is mandatory that up to 5th of every month the worker pays the wage, and if not, it is possible to take other legal steps. There are various proposals, but the deal is what the government's action will be because we think the Government has the main burden of solving this problem and we are hoping that during these days there will be positive steps to solve this matter”, Ibrahim said.

Ibrahim has asked Prime Minister Kurti to dialogue with the parties involved in this case.
