German government spokesman Stephen Hebestreet confirmed the added commitment of Germany and France to normalising the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. He said the purpose of this visit will be to see what are the possible options in advancing normalisation of relations.
The aim of the visit will be to see what the possible options in normalising relations are.
“As security in Europe, and here comes in and stability in the Western Balkans, it is of great importance to Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron. That also means reinforceing commitment to the full normalisation of Serbia-Kosovo relations. Given the recent tensions, both of them have put in charge of foreign advisers Jens Plötner, and Emmanuel Bone, to directly support EU taskman Miroslav Lajcak” efforts, Hebestreet told DW.
At the weekend two letters were made public by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and French President Emmanuel Macron, in which they appealed to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, for the quickest normalisation of relations between the two countries. Hebestreet did not comment on the letters, but said they were not for the general public.
For letters that one public instance sends another public institution, but not for public opinion, I cannot say anything”, the government spokesman said.
