A senior former agent of The FBI was involved in investigations into Trump's campaign contacts with Russia during the 2016 elections.
Charles McGonigal is being investigated for his ties to Russia and other foreign governments, as well as his behaviour. Late last year, according to court internal documents provided by InsanderAmerican lawyers secretly gathered a jury for this.
According to the medium, it seems that the government, in part, was looking into McGonigal's business relations with a senior deputy of Oleg Deripaska, the Russian billionaire oligarch, who was at the centre of allegations that Russia has co-operated in Trump's campaign for intervention in the 2016 elections.
According to witnesses, prosecutors are also considering whether McGonigal is linked to Bosnia and Herzegovina's government, as well as some “payback or gift” given by Kosovo governments Montenegro and Albania.
Two sources told Insider that McGonigal was close to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. According to an email revised by Inseder, McGonigal used his official FBI email account trying to organise a meeting between Rama and an American whose prime minister was considering hiring an anti-corruption initiative. In the end, the FBI did not give McGonial approval for the meeting and it never took place.
A Rama representative said the prime minister's relationship with McGonigal was “a completely private friendly relationship without public interest”.
