The war Russia has started in Ukraine now and many months has caused major effects throughout Europe, pushing many countries into energy crisis. To combat such a situation, reports the Financial Times, Brussels has been set in motion and is working with a proposal that will set the ceiling price of [...]
A draft proposal that has seen the Financial Times, the European Commission has recommended member states to limit the price of electricity from producers such as wind farms, nuclear plants and coal.
The current electricity price in Germany, considered a reference point, is over 450 euros for MWh.
Electricity prices with the majority have increased because they are related to gas prices.
Setting such a price, writes the FT, would result in the normal function of global supply chains.
From the EC, the price limit must be high enough so as not to discourage future investments in non-producing gas technologies.
The document also suggests a mandatory target for reducing electricity consumption by 5 per cent during the peak price hours something that Commission President Ursula von der Leenen presented in prepared remarks, seen by FT on Tuesday.
