The official website of the Ministry of Education and Science in Northern Macedonia has faced cyberattack Saturday.

For hours on this ministry's page, the message is seen, “has been prepared by the Greek hackers' team Netwatchers”, while in case of clicking on the page, a video is presented on YouTube with the title “Macedonia famous”.

Education and Science Ministry officials have said that “has no room for concern over claims about the alleged downloading of citizens' data, because the website has no such database of”.

The Ministry of Education is in communication with the National Centre for Cyberattacks at the Electronic Communications Agency, where the case was reported, and from where we expect that in co-operation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, concrete action to be taken to reveal the source of attack” is said in the Education Ministry's announcement.

It has also become known that the Ministry of Education's <x0 computer experts are taking action to increase the security of the web site, and only later will the same be activated”.

The cyberattack on the Ministry of Education website came after Thursday another group of hackers on the Twitter social platform threatened to attack this site and download the data in it unless the Bulgarian flag is placed on it.

Cyberattacks on North Macedonia institutions have occurred even in 2021 when the State Statistics Agency website was attacked.

Targeted by the attack was the population registration system.

Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro have reported cyber attacks in recent days.

On September 6th, the Government of Kosovo has announced that several websites of state institutions have been the target of a cyber attack, but has not specified which.

The attack, however, has failed to penetrate within the infrastructure of the state computer network, as, as said, “has been blocked by relevant security equipment”.

In Albania, authorities have blamed Iran's state for two attacks on its websites, one in July and another has become known on September 10th.

As a result, Albania has severed diplomatic relations with Iran.

In late August, the Government in Montenegro has also announced that it has been the target of cyber attacks. Doubts of responsibility have been cast over Russia and Cuba.

To investigate this attack, a team of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has already gone to Montenegro.
