Cadyrov wrote on Telegram on September 5th that the statement he made two days ago for his possible resignation had made “to control your opinion”.
45-year-old Cadyrov has ruled the Russian republic of Chechen since 2007 and is the longest-lived leader of a Russian region.
On September 3rd, Cadyrov wrote that after 15 years as regional leader in Russia “my time has come”.
However, in his latest post on the Telegram, Cadyrov wrote that he learned that an unidentified Russian politician served as regional leader for 27 years, so he “decided to beat that record”.
Under his rule, the region is accused of massive human rights violations.
Cadyrov in March reportedly travelled to Ukraine, where members are believed to be fighting alongside regular Russian forces.
Chechen paramilitary units are widely regarded as formidable military forces. In the past they have been dislocated, supposedly with the permission of the Government, east of Ukraine, but also in other countries like Syria. / REL
