The truce went into effect Sunday evening to end the three-day violence between the Israeli army and Palestinian militants in Gaza. Once in effect, the ceasefire mediated by Egypt was respected by both sides despite sporadical shootings in its early hours.
At least 44 people have been killed in recent Israeli Army attacks in Gaza, 15 of them children, in the most violent clash between the parties since May last year. The U.S. and United Nations leaders praised the outcome of the ceasefire and called for its respect. US President Joe Biden also called for fuel supplies and humanitarian aid to Gaza to follow.
