Albania's prime minister, Edi Rama, has said that he supports Kosovo hundreds of percent in its requirements for implementing the reciprocity decision with Serbia for IDs and license plates. While Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has given Spain's support in the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU.
According to Rama, the solution lies only in dialogue, adding Kosovo cannot become part of NATO or other organisations without resolving the disputes that exist.
I support hundreds of percent of the Government of Kosovo and support the authorities in Kosovo who want the agreement to be implemented. I have no dilemma on this, just as I commend the prime minister of Kosovo, commend the authorities in Kosovo for their sense of self-control and for listening to allies who suggested a 30-day delay, not to change the agreement, but to give time and to clarify whether there is a need to clarify whatever it is to do so that when the agreement enters into force, there should be no problems of this nature”, he has said.
Rama has spoken at a media conference with the Spanish prime minister, where she has said such situations as the one in northern Kosovo show that Kosovo must sit at the open Balkan table.
“These situations do not show that the Open Balkans are unnecessary or wrong, these situations do not show that our approach to Serbia and the policy of approaching dialogue, of building peace is unnecessary, these situations show just why we need it, these situations show just why the Open Balkans are needed, these situations show exactly why Kosovo should come to sit down at the Balkan Open Table”, he added.
The Albanian prime minister has stressed that Kosovo must be very committed to dialogue with Serbia, to seek it even if Serbia refuses.
“Kosovo should be very committed to dialogue with Serbia, even if Serbia does not want to, Kosovo should seek the dialogue over and over again, that is why co-operation with strategic allies is necessary and above all without that dialogue, and without mutual recognition the future strategics is not as bright as it could be. I mentioned the case in NATO you talk about other organizations, but how would this happen if the Western alliance is not consolidated by a hundred percent, what will make Spain or other countries change their mind, just deepening dialogue and reaching a solution with the enemy as a matter of fact, peace is not done with friends, with enemies becomes a quarrel, peace is done with enemies”, Rama said.
While Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has been asked about not recognising Kosovo's independence from Spain.
We think it's a unilateral declaration of independence, this is the Spanish government's opinion with all due respect for the opinion of the Albanian government, but we think that international law has been violated, so we can't be in favour of this accession and that's with all due respect for the Albanian people, so it's something we don't share, it's an opinion that we don't share with the Albanian government, but that doesn't mean that under the European framework we don't be in support of the work of your representatives and doesn't mean that we don't encourage the dialogue with Pristina to get closer to the Union, the European Union. This is the position of the government of Spain”, he said.
He has added that Albania will have Spain's support on its entire EU path, as will other Western Balkan countries.
“Albania has had and will have support on its way to the European Union, and we also support the integration of the entire Western Balkans into the European Union, namely, Albania is one of the main countries that are on that road”, he has said.
