People who live in low-income families in low-mission urban areas that exchange their cars have the right to a full subvenic of $4,000 for the purchase of an electronic bicycle. French citizens from higher income groups may seek smaller subsidies.
The subvention, which was introduced for the first time last year, has grown in value recently after officials determined that more must be done to reach rival states that love bicycles like the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. The French government has said that it wants 9 percent of the country to ride bicycles until 2024, compared with only 3 percent now. The Netherlands boasts 27 percent of its bicycle population.
Politics has been modeled under an extremely successful programme in Lithuania, in which citizens qualify for a subsidy of up to $1000 (approximately $994) for buying a new electric bike, scooter, motorcycle, or even public transport financing, exchanging their old vehicle.
