This party, led by Tetovo Mayor Bilall Kasami, has won over Ali Ahmeti's Democratic Union for Integration, which is part of the government of Social Democrat Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski.
The extraordinary elections in this municipality, with the Albanian dominant population located in the western part of the country, have been held due to problems in its functioning due to political instability and inability to approve the final annual budget report, which under the law on local self-government is binding, is otherwise distributed to the municipal assembly.
The municipal council in Tetovo has 31 advisers, and according to the preliminary results of the State Election Commission, the Besa Movement won over 30 per cent of the vote from about 27 thousand citizens who have come to the polls. The Democratic Union for Integration has won 25 per cent of the vote. Third place listed V MRO DPMNE, then LSDM, Albanian Democratic Party, Alternative and Alliance for Albanians.
The “Theatres indiscriminately of ethnic, poetic or religious affiliation Sunday voted to continue the change in Tetovo, for the city's development, where youth will have future and perspective”, said Bilall Kasami, chairman of the EUSA Movement.
DUI leader Ali Ahmeti has acknowledged his party's defeat in this election, stressing that for him more importantly that victory is democratisation and rule of law in northern Macedonia.
For us, the processes are important, most importantly, that we continue to invest in democratic standards, in rule of law and judicial state”, Ahmeti has declared.
VMRO DPMNE has declared victory over the LSDM in Tetovo with a score of 3 to 1 and has called for early parliamentary elections, since according to the party's deputy, Vlasko Gjorchev “in Tetovo, LSDM-DUI” power has been declared.
In addition to Tetovo, elections were held Sunday in two small municipalities -- Zhupa and Mavrov -- Rostuza where there has not been mayors due to failure to reach the threshold for voting in the 2021 elections. These two municipalities have been won by the Social Democrat League.
Sunday's elections, particularly those in Tetovo as one of the biggest municipalities in Northern Macedonia, are seen as a test for ruling parties, and after winning the EUSA movement at Albanian and V electorate MRO DPMNE's call to the Macedonian one is expected to increase for early parliamentary elections. /European. org
