“I have to say that the meeting between President (Aleksandar) Vuciq and Prime Minister (Albin) Kurt was really good, very professional and quiet. It was encouraging to see that level of conversation in the presence of EU High Representative Josep Borelli and Mr. Lajcak”, he said.
Escobar said they encouraged Kosovo to be more constructive and flexible and that he sees there is a will for it.
He said, among other things, that nobody should suffer because of the license plates and that both sides should focus on European solutions.
“We need to move from the Narrativa Kosovo is Serbia and cross to Kosovo, and Serbia is Europe. So you have a future together. We're getting away from the problems of the nineties, and we're approaching the possibilities that the XXI has to offer. The XXI century will be a century of economic opportunities for this region. A century in which the Western Balkans will become a growth generator for the entire European continent. A century in which you will become the centre of energy production, renewable energy, IT sector, transport, and many other economic sectors that this region alone can offer. So the reality is that eventually you will all be connected through some regional economic agreements, such as CEFTA, the Joint Regional Market or Small Schengen, and eventually to the European Union. In the end, of course you will have good relations with Kosovo, you will be linked to Kosovo, Albania, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, the sooner we resolve these conflicting issues, the sooner we will have those future chances”, he believes.
In the interview for N1, he has said he has come with the message that there is great concern in the international community for possible escalation of violence due to measures taken by the Kosovo government.
“During my visit to Pristina, Mitrovica and Belgrade, I have created the impression that all sides are committed to finding a peaceful solution to this crisis. And this is the message I will send to Washington: I believe both sides will find a compromise solution that will enable the people of Kosovo to live in peace”, Escobar said.
Otherwise, Escobar had a meeting with Serbian President Vuciq during yesterday, as well as days earlier with leaders of our institutions as well as opposition parties.
