Hard energy situation: Stock prices jump 450-520 euros/MWh, imports exceed 210m euros

The energy crisis which started as a mid-term development last year and with expectations that it would last until the end of 2023 is actually unclear about the cycle it will have.

Global economic overall development, chains caused by the Russia-Ukraine war have led economists to assess that perhaps a possible release will come in 2025, and that is linked to rapid solar energy implementation plans and priority.

Energy imports exceed 210m euros

The unfriendly hidric situation has made Albania focused on imports to meet the country's supply demand in this difficult year. This has happened regularly to our country that imports at certain times would take on the main weight, but the burden was not as strong for the country because the stock prices were nearly 5-10 times lower than we have today.

The Albanian Electronic Corporation officially confirmed to “Monitor” that imports by May of this year stood at 145m euros. Meanwhile, a series of other import procedures have been developed during June and July 18th, which is closely estimated at an expense of over 63m euros. This amounts to total imports around 210m euros, a figure that will be exceeded by the July closure. The odds are that this year's imports are twice as high as those of a year ago, a figure confirmed at one of his appearances by Prime Minister Edi Rama, defending arguments about why Albania has decided to apply an amnesty. According to Rama, the power supply without burdening this family consumer bill will require 500m euros this year, meaning imports here.

In the best days, Albania imports minimally 20% of its energy needs, according to INSTAT, while in periods of import drought, up to 50%.

KESH also conducted several optimisation procedures during June, selling more expensive at the point and buying cheaper at other times.
