Montenegro's Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic has said he will not resign, following the loss of support in Parliament on the part of the Social Democrat Party (SDP) and the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) for his government.
On 20 July, these parties have reiterated their calls for resignation during Abazovic's speech in the Parliament.
Vice President DPS, Jevto Erakoviq, has said they had supported a minority government, so Montenegro can head towards the European Union, but has added that “this is not that way, but that's a precipice”, so it has called on Abazovic to resign.
I won't resign until parliament puts in “, it has retorted Abazovic.
The reason for non-support is the Government's decision to adopt the text of the Constitutional Agreement, which envisions regulation of relations between Montenegro and the Belgrade-based Serbian Orthodox Church, something these parties oppose.
Although the government has approved this document on July 8th, following Abazovic's discussions with state President Milo Djukanovic, it has been reached agreement on July 19th that before signing experts' opinion and checking the legal base.
