Germany will temporarily deploy some border controls until the 7th (G7) Group summit is held in this state. The G7 summit will take place 26 June to 28 June in Elmau, Germany.
Germany has ordered increased security at its border from 13 June to 3 July, the Interior Ministry said Saturday in a statement.
“Controls aim to prevent potential perpetrators of violence from entering German territory, the statement says, adding that “travellers should expect to submit to controls during this period”.
The Interior Ministry did not further clarify what kind of violent threats can be expected, but some protests against the summit are planned in the nearby town of Garmisch-Pertenkirchen and in the capital of Bavari, Munich.
Temporary border controls will be “flexible in terms of location and time” and will be carried out “on the internal land, air and German seafarer”.
Part of G7 are the United States, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
