Prime Minister Edi Rama has shared in his Facebook account a video message for this important day for Albania.
Prime Minister Edi Rama's full word on Albania's chairmanship of the presidency of the UN Security Council:
This is the third decade of the third millennium. The world is troubled, and we continue to witness untold atrocities in over 50 conflicts around the globe. Democracy and human rights are being severely tested around the world.
It's been a long time since we've seen massive human rights abuses, from Darfur to Myanmar, from Afghanistan to Syria, and the international community is struggling to place perpetrators of serious crimes before responsibility.
In Europe, the wounds of wars that followed the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, especially in Kosovo, are still open. We are doing all we can to move forward, not forgetting the past, but engaging in building a common future in peace.
Russia's war in Ukraine has challenged European security and shaken world order based on rules. We cannot and should not get used to impunity.
It is urgent that we act, now, for the countless victims of senseless conflicts, but also for us, all of us, for what we believe, for what we do together, to protect the law, to keep the work of multilaterals.
All of us have a role to play, our part to fulfill.
That is why Albania's first representative event at its first presidency of the United Nations Security Council, which will have the honour of leading on June 2nd, is dedicated to “Accountability and Justice for grave violations of international law”.
The United Nations has no higher value in promoting justice and rule of law. Albania promotes it nationally and protects it internationally.
Justice and peace walk side by side and Albania remains fully engaged in this direction.
We are privileged to voice our beliefs and direct the United Nations Security Council with all our will and passion for what we firmly believe.
