According to reports by Swiss media, the plane Shaqiri was to travel with has suffered a defect.
This has been confirmed by Switzerland's Football Fedarat.
“Shaqiri was already on the plane to Cyril, but the plane had to go back and land at Chicago”, said Adrian Arnold, spokesman for the Swiss Football Federation.
Gerdan Shaqiri is expected to join the gathering with the national on Tuesday.
