The Information and Private Agency, after conducting inspections concerning monitoring the legality of biometric data processing at the University of Pristina, has found that Pristina University has installed equipment that processes biometric data, facial features, with the aim of identifying entry and exit workers during working hours.
In this case, the Agency for Information and Privates has ruled by which it has banned the processing of biometric data, as well as imposed the elimination and destruction of them.
“Line No. 06/L-082 for the Protection of Personal Data has determined that processing biometric data for the purpose of identifying a physical person uniquely is basically prohibited. Therefore, this processing can only be done if it is necessarily required for people's security, property, protection of confidential data, and business secrets, if this cannot be achieved by easier means and should be proportional to the purpose of placing”, the AIP communiqué says.
