Serbia, along with Belarus of the Lukasenko Ottomans, is the only states in Europe that have not imposed sanctions on Russia following crimes committed in Ukraine, writes Express. Furthermore, the signing of a petition against imposing sanctions on Russia has started in Serbia.
Serbs do not want to impose sanctions on Russia, which is committing massacres and attacks on the Ukrainian population since President Vladimir Putin issued orders that Russian forces enter Ukraine's territory on February 24th.
According to a report by the Serbian newspaper “Danas”, more than 200 public figures have signed this petition, including the three academics Matija Beqkovic, Costa Cavoski and Vasilije Krestiq. Serbian Orthodox Church leaders and director Emir Kusturica have also signed it.
The signatories of this petition have said they hope that Ukraine will reject “the Western alliance, which, according to them, is pushing them into conflict with the Slavic brothers, for their interests.
Belgrade University philosophy professor Milos Kovic has said imposing sanctions on Russia would be Serbia's “national suicide”.
He says, as Danas quoted, that since the XVIth century, co-operation with Russia has been the <x0-founder <x0-foundor” condition for the survival of the Serbian people.
Several-time gatherings in Russia's support have been held in Belgrade, making Serbia the only country in the world to honour Putin, who is seen by the majority of the world as the killer of Ukrainian civilians.
