The Frenchman took a liver transplant in 2012, when he was a Barcelona player. An intervention that was vital at the time, for it overcame the risk of life.
By that time Abidal had been told that the liver was donated to a cousin named Gerard Armand, but now this is not being true, according to a report by “El confidential”.
The National Institute of Toxicology, released by this medium, has reportedly confirmed that there is no evidence that the liver donor was familiar to the former French footballer.
So this transplant, performed ten years ago, is now considered suspicious. Spanish police have been investigating this case since 2017.
Besides Eric Abidal, under investigation there is Spanish businessman Sandro Rosell, who from 2010 to 2014 was president of the Barcelona club, as well as Yianjo Castillo, who had worked as technical adviser at the Catalonas Club.
