Marco Verratti has been urging fans not to offend Italy's players who lost their qualifications at the World Cup, especially the new members of the team.
Azhur failed to qualify at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, losing 109 from Northern Macedonia on Thursday evening in the play-off semifinal.
They will now play a friendly abroad with Turkey, the other team that lost play-off from Portugal 3-1, a game in which neither of the nations wants to participate.
I want to thank everyone, staff, players and all those who work with passion and enthusiasm about the National. Unfortunately, in life and football, it doesn't always go as planned by your expectations, goals and dreams. Disillusionment is great, but we have already shown that everything is possible with work, passion, and heart. So, in life or football, just like after a big win last summer or a big defeat, we have to keep fighting. Football is our passion and I'm sure we will continue to give everything to gain more satisfying moments together”, Verratti said.
Italy was crowned European champion only eight months ago and set a new world record unbeatable, but despite only four losses in Roberto Mancin's time, fans and media have quickly turned to Azzuri.
The last thing I think about: I don't think the best way to deal with this is to insult everyone because each of us tried to give up everything. Above all, please leave the newest players alone (if you really want to, insult us older boys, because sometimes forget that we are people like you, normal people, and that we feel the biggest emotions in the smaller things)”, Verratti concluded.
