Ukraine is one of the world's leading cereal producers and exporters, and Ukrainian analysts say that due to the Russian occupation, this year's harvest may be considerably weaker, as a smaller area has been planted, Reuters writes.
“As far as new cultures are sown in winter wheat are really in good shape and, despite difficulties in performing field work, Ukraine will have bread”, Joba said in a statement.
“Of course, export potential has been significantly damaged by war, which will lead to higher prices”, the deputy minister added.
The APK-Inform agricultural consultancy company announced this week that due to the Russian invasion, the area planted with spring cereals in Ukraine could be reduced by 39 percent this year to 4.7 million hectares.
Ukraine produced a record 86 million tons of cereals last year, with 7.7 million acres [7 million ha] of spring crops.
