Marioupolis has experienced devastating attacks by Russian forces since the early days of the war. Photos showing the ruins of entire neighborhoods testify to the tragedy of the city.
70% of hospitals have been destroyed as a result of bombings as well as communication is difficult, since the telephone network has been cut off. Residents spend most of their time in shelters or basements, without electricity, water, and gas.
“People look for opportunities to survive. They're giving each other food and they're collecting trees on the streets to cook on the” street, Orlov said. According to estimates, more than 100,000 citizens are trapped in this city.
A considerable portion of the residents have managed to escape the city with their private vehicles.
