Today there is the Down World Syndrome Day

On the occasion of this day, there is a march under the auspices of President Vjosa Osmani. The march begins at 13:30 from the Kosovo Assembly building, where it will continue walking to the square”Zahir Pajaziti”.

Down syndrome occurs when an individual has an additional partial or complete copy of chromosome 21.

It's not yet known why it happens, but Down syndrome has always been a part of the human condition. It exists in all regions around the globe and usually results in variable effects on learning styles, physical characteristics, and health.

In December 2011, the UN General Assembly declared 21 March as the Down Syndrome World Day.

The estimated Down syndrome incident is between 1 in 1000 and 1 in 1100 live births worldwide. Each year, about 3,000 to 5,000 children are born with this chromosomeic disorder.

The quality of people's life with Down syndrome can be improved by satisfying their health care needs, including regular checks with health professionals to monitor mental and physical conditions and to offer timely interventions, whether physical therapy, professional therapy, speech therapy, counseling or special education.

Moto “Walk with the shoes of Mia” carries the message about the challenges a person goes through with Down syndrome.

People with Down syndrome continue to face various challenges in all vital aspects, which enable them to enjoy dignified life and realisation of their rights stemming from the Constitution and other laws of the Republic of Kosovo.
