Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned on Friday, March 4th those who oppose Russia's actions in Ukraine, so that they do not expand the “situation by imposing more sanctions on his state.

The Russian president has spoken at a government meeting that has been broadcast on state channel Rosiya 24.

We have no bad intentions against our neighbours”, Putin has claimed.

He has said his government “does not see a need for” for neighbours to take additional action, which will be “making our relationships even worse”.

I think that everyone should think about how to normalise relations, co-operate normally and develop normal relations”, he added.

This statement comes after Western foreign ministers have gathered in Brussels to consider ways to increase pressure on Russia.

Putin has also reiterated the preliminary claims that all actions taken by the Russian military have been made “in response to some unfriendly actions against the Russian Federation”.

Moscow's attack on Ukraine has started in the early hours of February 24th.

Putin has ordered the <x0 special” operation to demilitarize Ukraine.

He has said Thursday, March 3rd that “special military operation” in Ukraine is going according to plan and has considered Russian soldiers to be heroes.

Putin's TV comments have been in conflict with statements by Western governments and intelligence agencies that Putin's military campaign is facing logistical problems, tactical errors and greater resistance than expected by Ukraine.

The Kremlin's action has stirred anger and has been condemned worldwide.

The United States and its allies have responded with severe sanctions against Moscow. / REL/
