Borrell: Putin is using refugees as weapons

Borrell said restrictive measures will continue to be an important part of the EU's approach, and notes that the EU is ready to continue putting pressure on Russia in co-ordination with its partners.
At the same time, according to Borrell, the EU will continue to assist Ukraine politically, financially and humanitarianly, including assistance to Ukraine's military forces.
“We have reached a political agreement to allocate an additional 500m euros from the European Peace Instrument. We believe that what is happening in Ukraine is a war crime committed by Russian military forces against Ukrainian civilians, and that cannot be left unanswered”, Borrell said.
The chief of EU diplomacy also says that due to the destruction of cities from Russia, there are currently 3.3 million refugees from Ukraine and estimates Russian President Vladimir Putin is using refugees as weapons.
“We are ready to help everyone,” said, adding that the EU would require Russia to be punished for war crimes and violations of humanitarian and international law.
