Russia has already said only that it has issued air and missile attacks at Ukraine's air bases, air defence batteries and other military facilities. This ministry has said it has destroyed 83 Ukrainian military objects.
For the first time since the start of the action, Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konasenkov confirmed that Russian ground troops had entered Ukraine, saying they advanced towards the town of Kherson, northwest of Crime.
Khherson stands in a reservoir providing most of the fresh water for the Crimean until Ukraine interrupted it by a dam in 2017 in response to the annexation of the Ukraine Crimean Peninsula from Moscow in 2014.
Konasenkov said the Russian troops' movement allowed the return of water supply to Crime.
