Road payments: Where is the most expensive, and the most free in Europe?

Since Finland, Estonia, and Monaco are not paid for their ride, you will pay a lot of money for a trip to France or Italy.

According to a British study that examined how much travel should be spent on European highways, bridges, and tunnels, French people have the highest rates in Europe, since in countries such as Finland, Estonia and Monaco are not paid at all.

In Estonia, for example, taxes are paid only for vehicles that are heavier than 3.5 tons. And if you don't want to spend more on road payments in France, Italy, or Norway, you'll have to travel the side roads. For example, for a trip from Paris to Marseille, across the A6/A7 775km highway, you will have to pay about 65 euros. The Italian route from Milan to Naples (773km) costs 761 euros, while Norway takes third place in high prices of road tariffs. So, from Bode to Oslo you have to pay 53 euros.

Northern Macedonia has acceptable expenses, because for the highway from Petrovci to Veles, about 1.30 euros are paid.

When it comes to Serbia, the road fee for highway vehicles from Subotica to Vranje (531km) is about 17 euros.

In Albania, meanwhile, the tunnel is paid at Calimash, where small cars pay 5 euros, while trucks and buses pay markedly more. In this context, it is noteworthy that among the cheapest bridges is what connects Norway and Sweden whose passage costs about 2.10 euros. On the other hand, the fee for St. Bernard the Great in Switzerland is around 25.5 euros. The freest tunnel in the region is the Sozina tunnel in Montenegro, for which 2.5 euros is paid.
