The storm has left nearly 300,000 homes and businesses without electricity, as temperatures have dropped well below zero degrees.
13 countries are struggling to cope with extreme weather pressure and lack of electricity. U.S. citizens, aside from the weather conditions, are facing problems in gas and lack of firewood in order to cope with the cold.
The temperatures reportedly have dropped to -45 in Montana. 6C (-50F) earlier during the storm, while yesterday's lowest temperature belonged to the remote town of Havre, also in Montana, which reached -39C (38F).
In Maine, more than 107,000 properties are without electricity, and company chiefs have warned that it may be days before the supply is fully restored, while some other states have urged customers to cut their use to avoid power cuts.
More than 1,100 people have sought help by taking refuge in 5 shelters. Some of the shelters have also improvised by raising tents so that citizens do not remain in the streets.
In some countries the state of emergency has been declared.
