As fighting continues in the area, Ukrainian forces are experiencing serious troop losses, Arestovych said, adding “ [the enemy] is losing more, of course, but we have serious losses. It's a very serious fight. ”
Bakhmut has probably become the most controversial part of the 1,300-mile front line in Ukraine and the scene of some of the fiercest fighting of the war.
The large region of Donetsk, where Bakhmu and Soledar are located, has been held by separatists backed by Russia since 2014 and is one of four Ukrainian regions that Moscow claims Russian territory.
