Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat told Radio Free Europe that the air defence has managed to hit more than 60 of the 70 deployed missiles.
He said 38 missiles were launched by the Tu-95 bombers, located in the Caspian Sea region and in the southern Russian region of Rostowi. This region is located on the eastern Ukrainian border. Meanwhile, 22 Calibr-like missiles were launched by Russian fleet ships on the Black Sea, according to him.

Sirens for air strikes have been launched for three hours, and officials have called on residents to take refuge.
According to social networking reports, hundreds of people have been sheltered at subway stations in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
An air strike has injured a person in Odessa, and Russia has hit the city's energy infrastructure, causing Odessa to remain without energy and water supply.
Similarly, energy infrastructure has been hit in the Dnepropetrov region, and authorities said there are likely to be large-scale electricity reductions. In the Sumi region, authorities have cut the current itself as a precautionary measure, and reportedly there may be reductions in Chernihiv in the north in the western region of Ternopoli.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said engineers have only started working to repair the electrical lines hit by the attacks.
Earlier on December 5th, at least one powerful explosion occurred at the Russian air base in the Saratov region, about 600 kilometers east of Ukraine. Also reported was an explosion at an air base in Rianan, southeast Moscow.
Russia's Defence Ministry said the attacks were carried out by Ukrainian fears. But Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on these explosions.
