South Sudan President Salva Kiir urinally pissed during the official opening of a street last week. This event began a public debate on whether Kiir is fit to hold public office, the DailyMail writes.
While the national anthem was intoning a new route last week, Kiir, 71, was initially unaware of what was happening. After the urine was coming under his feet, he was observed by his associates, and the footage group that was broadcasting directly turned the camera from the ceremony.
People, including politicians and lawyers from Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya, immediately appeared in social media to discuss the incident. There have been concerns about the long rule of Kiir: he has been in power since independence in 2011, and South Sudan has not held elections since then. The country is expected to hold elections in 2024.
Many said the incident showed that Kiir is not good enough to rule a nation that faces intense challenges, acute hunger, conflict and climate shock. Others criticized the distribution of social media images, complaining that it was disrespectful of a man of his age. / COMMHA/
