“Russia has stopped threatening with the use of nuclear weapons because of the international community's response that has described this as red line”, Scholz told the Funke media.
He said that despite deep divisions, it is important that he dialgo with the Kremlin continue.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the threat to a nuclear war was increasing, but insisted that Russia “has not gone mad” and that Russia sees its nuclear arsenal only as a safeguard clause.
Funke said the interview with Chancellor Scholz was held on Monday and that the quotations were authorised yesterday afternoon.
Scholz stressed that Putin must first conclude the war, but that he would then be prepared to talk to Russia about gun control in Europe -- something he said was an offer before the start of the war.
He also defended Germany's support for Ukraine, which the crane says has been very reserved, saying that after the United States, Germany has been the biggest supporter of Ukraine, including weapons supplies.
