Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said that “is unfortunate” I expected him to react after Switzerland's victory over Serbia, as two Albanians played for the Italians.
Rama, at a news conference Sunday, said he is prime minister of Switzerland and that he would not be the least dignified “” of Switzerland's Albanian football players Grant Jaka and Gerdan Shaqiri. He gave these comments after being asked why he reacted Friday night, as did Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
I don't really understand why I had to talk. I'm the prime minister of Switzerland. I am the prime minister of Albania, and if I were to separate from Switzerland's national team two Swiss citizens who have Albanian nationality, who are Albanians whom we see with love and sympathy for a particular match, what would I do specifically? I would use those two political figures. And in a highly dignified way, for the sake of truth”, Rama said.
Because it's the other country's national team. And I would blow the fire of nationalism. Sorry for the ridiculous expression. But nationalism is always so funny, so dangerous. It's not necessary. I don't see any need at all, and I think whoever does this doesn't do the right thing”, he added.
A few minutes after the Swiss match ended in Qatar, Kurti has posted a photo of Jaka and Shaqiri, writing: “Serbia does not pass. Congratulations, Switzerland. A similar reaction came from Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani.
