Albania's President Bajram Begaj has asked Pope Francis during his official visit there, for the Vatican to recognise Kosovo as an independent state.
“Such a step would give strong impetus to advance the slow process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia”, the head of the Albanian state has indicated during an interview for the Italian daily “Il Tempo”
The role of the Pope and the Holy See is very important to boost the attention of the EU and the West, not only to preserve peace in the Balkan region, but also to ensure the European future of the Balkans. At this point, I certainly asked Pope Francis that the Vatican recognise Kosovo as a state, as this recognition would help even more efforts for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue being led today by the European Union and the United States of America”, President Bajram Begaj has indicated, reports “Albanian”
On December 2nd, President Begaj visited the Holy See in the Vatican, where, together with First Lady Armand Begaj, he was received in a special audience by the Holy Father, Pope Francis.
