They have called this decision constructive and advancing efforts to promote a safer situation in the north, which is key to dialogue facilitated by the EU, as the only way forward to reaching an inclusive agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
The “Embassys of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States and the EU Office welcome the decision of the Kosovo government and political party leaders to postpone municipal elections and to mayors in the four northern municipalities at this time. This constructive decision advances efforts to promote a safer situation in the north, which is key to EU facilitated dialogue, as the only way forward to reach a comprehensive agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia”, the statement said.
President Osmani has indicated that there has been complete consensus among political parties for delaying elections in the country's north and that the assessment of competent institutions about the security situation in the country's north has also been taken into account.
The president's decision instructs the Central Election Commission to take all necessary actions to hold elections on the new date.
The election delay was also sought by international partners, following continuing incidents that took place this week in the country's north.
